Tripura scholarship for UPSC aspirants

AGARTALA: In a first, the Tripura government has decided to launch a special scholarship scheme for UPSC aspirants who have cleared the preliminary exam state law minister Ratan Lal Nath said on Friday.

“47 years have passed since Tripura attained statehood but our state still lags behind when it comes to representation in the administrative services.

Students here are equally meritorious but because of lack of opportunities, they fail to make it through,” Nath said adding that for the first time in 10 years, 5 students had cleared the prelims but failed to make it through the mains exam because of lack of support. The students do not have the means to stay in Delhi and prepare for the final rounds and we plan to help them get through these obstacles, Nath also said.

Under the LAKSHYA programme, students, whose family’s annual income is less than Rs 10 lakh, would be given a scholarship of Rs 1 lakh once they clear the preliminary stage. They would also be provided free lodging and transportation facilities in New Delhi where they would get better training to help them get through the mains stage. “Tripura has produced hundreds of world renowned doctors and engineers but civil servants are rare. We have decided on this to ensure that students get the required exposure,” Nath added.
