Truck driver dies in collision with trailer on highway

GURUGRAM: A 24-year-old truck driver died in a head-on collision between his vehicle and a trailer near a dhaba on the Farrukhnagar-Jhajjar highway on Tuesday morning. The deceased’s father who was waiting for him at the dhaba witnessed the accident but could do nothing to save him. The trailer driver was also critically injured and is being treated in a private hospital.

An FIR has been registered against him at the Farrukhnagar police station and police have taken the two badly-damaged vehicles into custody.

According to police, the accident happened around 5.15am in front of the Annapurna dhaba on the state highway. Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Achej village in Jhajjar district, was supposed to meet his father at the dhaba before heading towards Gurugram. When he reached near the dhaba, the trailer which was coming from the Gurugram side collided with his truck. Rajesh died on the spot. After getting information, a police team reached there and rushed the injured trailer driver to hospital.

In his complaint, Rajesh’s father Om Prakash said that early morning, his son had taken his truck to Charkhi Dadri where it was loaded with crushed stones and he was to take the same to Gurugram. Om Prakash also had some work in Gurugram and around 4am, he left his home on his bike and reached the Annapurna dhaba from where his son was supposed to pick him up. “The accident happened when I was at the dhaba, in front of my eyes. My son was trying to move his truck towards the dhaba when the speeding trailer crashed into his vehicle. The dhaba staff and I rushed towards the accident spot but my son was no more. Police reached soon and rushed the trailer driver to the hospital. He was also badly injured. I was waiting for my son but I got his body,” said Om Prakash.

According to his complaint, an FIR has been registered against Sohan Lal (40), a resident of Hisar, under IPC sections 279 (rash driving) and304A (causing death by negligence) at the Farrukhnagar police station. “The trailer driver is being treated in the SGT hospital.
