Truck runs over 46-year-old motorcyclist

PUNE: A 46-year-old motorcyclist died after a heavy vehicle exiting the CRPF Camp at Talegaon Dabhade along the Pune-Mumbai highway ran him over on Sunday afternoon.

The deceased — Parvez Idris Khan from Mumbra — was on his way home after offering prayers at a Dargah in Khed-Shivapur. His friend Ibrahim Ansari escaped without injuries.

The police registered an offence against the truck driver on Tuesday.

After offering prayers, the duo left for Mumbra around 10am. When they reached near the CRPF Camp, a heavy vehicle was exiting the camp. “The driver was crossing the highway towards Somatane Phata. When Khan noticed the truck in the middle he tried to stop by applying brakes,” a police officer said.

Khan lost control of the motorcycle. “His motorcycle skidded and he fell near the rear wheels of the truck. He was wearing a helmet. But his head came under the wheels and he was killed on the spot,” the officer added.
