Tuticorin: Only 10% of the fever cases reported in the state are dengue while the others are viral fever cases, said health minister Dr C Vijayabaskar.

He was speaking to reporters after reviewing and visiting patients at the Tuticorin Medical College hospital on Tuesday. The minister said that change in the climatic condition had resulted in people falling sick with fever. “Chennai, Dharmapuri, Vellore, Thiruvallur and Kanchipuram districts had the highest number of fever cases, but only 10% of them were dengue cases,” he said. After the surprise inspection and interaction with patients at the government hospital, he said that only two patients here had dengue.

“People with fever should seek medical attention immediately and if proper treatment is given from the initial stages, loss of life can be prevented,” he said. He added that more fever cases are expected to be reported till December and they are taking all steps to control the spread of fever.
