Two Alwar cops mediating in family dispute thrashed

Alwar: Two personnel of Alwar police were severely beaten up when their bid to mediate in a family dispute went awry on Saturday.

Sub-inspector Ram Swaroop, and constable Shiv Ratan, are critically injured and are currently undergoing treatment at a hospital. The officials informed TOI that both the cops were posted at Mundawar police station.

They had gone to Jangiwada village in order to settle a dispute between two families.

One family alleged that the cops had taken money from the other party and were heavily drunk. The agitated family members then thrashed the two cops. One of them managed to alert the control room about the incident and the duo was later taken to the hospital.

“The cops are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Alwar. Their condition is stated to be out of danger and we are speaking to them to find out what had actually transpired,” an official said, adding that preliminary investigation has revealed that the cops had insisted that the family agrees for a settlement including sending daughters to their in-laws’ house. This triggered war of words between the police and the family members. The family members claimed that the cops did not have any female constables and that they were heavily drunk. The Alwar police said that they have registered a case against the people who were involved in thrashing the cops.

“A case has been registered against the accused and we are investigating the matter. We are also checking allegations made by the family members,” the official said.

Alwar police have been battling a major image problem after the Behror police station firing incident, wherein armed men had spirited away a dreaded gangster. Since then, the locals have been mocking the cops and openly defying their orders. “This is a serious case that needs to be properly investigated,” said the official.
