Two arms smugglers arrested in Munger

PATNA: The Munger police on Sunday busted an arms deal racket and arrested two arms smugglers from Naya Ramnagar police station area in the district.

The police seized three country-made pistols and a rifle from the possession of the two arms dealers – Akash Tanti and Vishal Tanti. The two are residents of Ramnagar Morcha village in Munger district.

The arrested arms suppliers were being quizzed by a police team led by DIG (Munger range) Manu Maharaaj.

Maharaaj, who is monitoring the ongoing operation, said the two arrested arms smugglers revealed to the police that they used to provide illegal weapons to gangsters and Maoists as well. They were paid Rs 15000 to Rs 20,000 as cut money on delivery of each consignment.

“Raids are on to nab those involved in supply of illegal weapons to the gangsters and the Maoists operating in the region. Since the operation is in progress, it would not be prudent to share more details about the arms dealers’ syndicate,” Maharraj said.

Sunday’s operation was fallout of a mini-gun factory unearthed under Madani Chauki police station in Lakhisarai district recently. Two arms suppliers were also arrested during the raid, which led to seizure of a big haul of illegal weapons from the district.
