Two days later, Delhi tourist, pilot land on tree in Kangra paragliding accident

DHARAMSHALA: A tourist from Delhi and a pilot were stuck in a tree for about four hours during their attempt to make an emergency landing as weather took an odd turn after they took off from Billing area of Kangra district on Thursday.


Three pilots took tandem flights from taking off site. While two of them landed safely, one got stuck in a tree.

The rescue team managed to bring them back to safety after four hours.

Subdivisional magistrate (SDM) Rameshwar Das said both the pilot and the tourist had been rescued. “They have received minor injuries, but both are safe now. We are going to take action against pilots, who are taking tandem flights in bad weather,” he added.

“There are about 150 pilots registered with the administration. Despite strict guidelines issued to them, they violate rules. We will take strict action against violators as such incidents send a bad message across the country,” the SDM added.

According to sources, the paraglider and his pilot were stuck in an area near Sansal. The rescue team managed to reach the spot after crossing dense forest area. Sources added that the tourists and their pilots had been denied permission for paragliding , but they took the same without informing the authorities concerned.
