Two Delhi returnees test +ve for Covid-19 in Manipur, total cases up to 9

IMPHAL: Manipur recorded two new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday after a 64-year-old woman and her 23-year-old daughter tested positive for the virus at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal. The state has seven active cases as two people were discharged earlier from hospital after being cured.

The daughter had taken her mother to Delhi for eye treatment and had returned to Manipur last Saturday. Speaking about their condition, the state health department's additional director and spokesperson Khoirom Saheeekumar Mangang said both of them, who are residents of Kamjong district, have been admitted to the Covid care facility of RIMS and all precautionary measures have been taken to stop the spread of the virus.

Sources said the mother-daughter duo had gone to Delhi in February and stayed on rent at the Kotla Mubarakpur area of the national capital. "Along with twenty other passengers of the state, the two returned to Manipur by bus on Saturday and were kept at a government-run quarantine centre at the Mantripukhir area in Imphal. Both of them are asymptomatic as of now. All 20 passengers of the bus have been identified and contact tracing has been initiated," the source added.

With Tuesday's cases, Kamjong district alone has recorded 3 Covid-19 cases. The other patient is a nurse who had returned from Kolkata. The other cases include two from the Moreh in Tengnoupal district, one from Churachandpur and another from Imphal East.

Meanwhile, 536 people, who were stranded in Hyderabad, arrived at Manipur's Jiribam station on Tuesday. As done in case of previous arrivals, the passengers underwent thermal screening by health experts on the station premises. Following this, they boarded buses arranged by the state government and moved towards their respective districts where they will stay at a quarantine centre for 14 days.
