Two hardcore Maoists held in Muzaffarpur

MUZAFFARPUR: A joint team of police and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) arrested two hardcore CPI (Maoist) activists from separate places in the district late on Friday night.

Police sources said the two arrested Maoists – Gonaur Sahni and Virendra Paswan – were wanted in more than 12 cases of Maoist violence, including blast on a rail track at Chakia in 2014 and attacks on brick kilns.

The SSB personnel arrested Sahni from his native village at Narma under the Hathaudi police station area in the district. SSB deputy commandant (operation) Dalbir Singh said an SSB team led by the inspector of 32 battalion Rituraj cordoned off the area after getting information that Sahni and one of his associates from Punjab was to visit the village. “Sahni had fled to Punjab in 2015,” Singh said.

Meanwhile, a joint team of district police and SSB arrested Paswan from Parsauni Kapur village under the Patahi police station area in East Champaran district late on Friday night.

“Paswan is a dreaded Maoist. He had been evading arrest for the last couple of years. He was involved in triggering blast on a rail track at Chakia under Muzaffarpur-Sugauli section of ECR in East Champaran district. We have seized some indiscriminating documents from his possession,” ASP Himanshu Gaurav said.

The two arrested Maoists were produced before the court of chief judicial magistrate from where they were forwarded to judicial custody on Saturday.
