Two killed in motorcycle accident

Kannur: Two youths were killed when the motor bike they were riding rammed into a parked goods vehicle at Valavupara on Iritty-Kootupuzha road in the district in the early hours of Monday.

According to police, the deceased have been identified as Kacherikadavu native Byju Johny (44) and Charal native Sajan Joy (40), and the mishap happened around 1am.

Police said that they were going to Vallithode, to apparently have food, when they lost control and hit the parked goods jeep. The vehicle was parked on the roadside and the driver was talking on his cell phone, said the residents of the locality.

They said that there was enough space on the road, and the road was straight at the spot of accident, which means they apparently lost control or could not identify the parked vehicle. Police said they are investigating if the bike was over speeding.

In the impact of the collision both hit the jeep and their faces suffered injuries that made it beyond recognition, said the police. Though the residents and the fire and rescue brigade immediately rushed them to a hospital in Kannur and then Government Medical College at Pariyaram, they were declared brought dead.
