Two labourers die in accident at construction site in Vrindavan

Agra: Two teenaged labourers died on Thursday while they were digging a pit for laying a sewerage line at a construction site of the Ramkrishna Mission Sevashrama Hospital in Vrindavan.

According to police, the incident took place around 4:30 pm, when a heap of sand they had dug out for the sewerage line caved in on them.

The deceased were identified as Chandra Prakash (19) and Mithun (18). Both hailed from Sehi village of Mathura.

Witnesses said the contractor immediately fled the site and locals took out the buried youths with the help of JCB machines. It took almost three hours to bring them out.

However by that time, Chandra Prakash was dead. Mithun was taken out alive and immediately admitted to the Ramkrishna Mission Hospital, where he died during the treatment.

Police claimed that Chandra Prakash had apparently died after being hit on his head by the JCB machine.

The family members of the deceased refused to accept their bodies till the administration and the police assured them of legal action against the contractor whose identity was not known immediately. They also demanded compensation from the government.

Mithun’s younger brother Mukesh claimed that the contractor has not paid them for the past three months.
