Umiya Dham construction from Feb

Gandhinagar: Less than a year since the foundation of the Vishwa Umiya Dham was laid, construction work of the Rs 1,000-crore project near Vaishnodevi Circle will begin in February next year.

A ‘dharma sansad’ attended by `dharmacharyas’ (religious leaders) of Hindu, Jain, Buddhist and Sikh religions will mark beginning of construction activity of the massive complex on February 29, 2020.

PM Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone of Vishwa Umiya Dham earlier this year.

Vishwa Umiya Foundation (VUF), the body which is implementing the project, said that donors have already pledged Rs 375 crore for the project, of which Rs 100 crore has already been received. VUF convener R P Patel said, “Over one lakh people from across the country and even from abroad will attend the event. Construction of the temple and the complex is expected to be completed within five years,” Patel said.

He added, “The foundation has so far got donation confirmation of around Rs 375 crore of which Rs100 crore has been received. The total cost of the project is expected to be around Rs 1,000 crore. Devotees from across the world are sending donations.”

“We have decided to invite religious leaders from across the country and from different faiths, because this temple is not just of the Patidar community but of ‘jagat janani’ (mother of the universe).” He added that the Vishwa Umiya Dham will not just serve as a socio-religious complex but will be developed as a tourist destination as well.

NRG summit for fund raising in January

VUF convener R P Patel said that while foundation members have already visited several countries to raise funds for the prestigious project, a summit of non-resident Gujaratis (NRGs) will be held on January 7, 2020 at Vishwa Umiya Dham complex. NRGs from USA, UK, Canada, Australia and other parts of the world are expected to participate. “Along with raising funds for the project, our aim is to provide a platform to NRGs to do business in Gujarat and other parts of the country,” he added.
