Unaccounted cash flow under IT lens

JAIPUR: The income tax department will keep a strict vigil over the flow of money during Lok Sabha elections in Rajasthan . A special control room has been set-up to keep a check on unaccounted cash during the poll campaign.

Senior IT official S K Gupta said that citizens can share information with the department on toll free number 1800-180-4930.

“Across all major airports of the state we have our Air-Intelligence Unit (AIU) keeping a close tab over transportation of money or gold,” he said, adding that all kinds of flights including private will be on IT department’s radar.

The IT department has designated senior officials in all districts with an aim to keep a leash on illegal transit of money. Gupta also said that IT sleuths will keep a close eye on betting markets of Bikaner, Churu and Phalodi.

“We cannot share our strategy but the money that flows through these routes will be strictly monitored by us,” Gupta said, adding that people in Jaipur can share information with nodal officer Sapna Bhatia through the mobile number - 9530400120.

“I would like to assure people that each tip-off shared with us will be properly verified by the department following which we will take necessary action,” Gupta added. Also under the scanner of the IT department are some sensitive areas where the sleuths will keep a round the clock check. “We have earmarked sensitive areas for the elections which will be heavily monitored for free and fair polling,” Gupta said.
