Unattended bag leads to bomb scare at Guwahati railway station

GUWAHATI: An unattended bag found near platform number 7 of the Guwahati railway station triggered panic for an hour on Thursday.

The bag was first spotted at around 9am by a team of railway protection force and government railway police who were on a routine patrol. A bomb disposal squad later arrived at the scene and found that the bag was stuffed with firecracker-like objects.

Police are inspecting CCTV camera footages to find out more about the incident.

Superintendent of railway police HK Das said, " The bomb squad on checking the bag found two cylindrical-shaped objects, which look like crackers, with an electric wire. However, the crackers were not connected to any time device or a battery. The objects have been sent to forensic experts. This might well have been the work of miscreants who wanted to create panic. Our security forces are strictly monitoring every movement in and around the railway station."
