Undertrial escapes from hospital

Rajkot: An undertrial prisoner gave police the slip from Sir T Hospital in Bhavnagar and escaped on Thursday.

Police said the accused, identified as Dharmendrasingh Jat, was admitted to the hospital for an eye check-up. Jat was lodged in Bhavnagar Central Jail in angadia loot and Arms Act offences. Earlier he was lodged in Botad sub-jail, from where he was shifted to the Bhavnagar Central Jail.

“Jat hoodwinked the cops and fled from the hospital. We have cordoned off various entry and exit points of Bhavnagar and launched a manhunt for him,” said an investigating official. Jat, who has a degree in civil engineering, was arrested in an angadia loot case on July 6, 2018.
