Unions to support Honda staff protest, plan a 'mega rally'

Around 2,000 workers of HSMI have been protesting since November 5 after 650 workers were forcefully sent on indefinite leave Gurgaon: To show solidarity with the workers protesting outside the Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) plant in Manesar, leaders of unions including the Central India Trade Union (CITU), All India Trade Union Council (AITUC) and several others will be marching from IMT, Manesar till the Mini Secretariat in Gurgaon on November 22.
Hundreds of workers from manufacturing industries are expected to join the rally.

“HMSI management has laid-off workers who had been employed with them for eight to ten years. While the talks are on, just that will not suffice. Hence, we have decided that if the government fails to deliver, we will carry out a mega rally on Friday afternoon,” said Satbir Singh, president, CITU, Haryana.

The union representatives from organisations such as Maruti Suzuki, Shivam Auto, Munjal Showa and Capparo Maruti have also extended their support for the rally.

“If the government doesn’t approve the demands of the workers even after the rally, we will sit for an indefinite protest at Hero Honda Chowk,” said Anil Pawar, a member of AITUC.

Around 2,000 workers of HSMI have been protesting since November 5 after 650 workers were forcefully sent on indefinite leave. On Friday, they left after the state government assured it will discuss their demands with the management.

“The workers have left the plant but we will carry on protesting outside the plant unless the demands are met,” said Suresh Gaur, union president at HMSI.
