Unseasonal rain lash Amreli towns; damage houses

RAJKOT: Unseasonal rain in couple of towns of Amreli and Bhavnagar city came as respite for citizens there who have been reeling under severe heat conditions on Friday.


Rain accompanied with thunderstorm and strong winds was reported from parts of Rajula and Savarkundla in Amreli, while moderate showers were recorded in Bhavnagar city.



The heavy wind blew roofs of some kutcha houses in couple of villages like Bherai and Morambhi. A few trees also got uprooted.

In some part of Rajula taluka people reported hail stones falling from the sky.

The sudden downpour also resulted in waterlogging in many parts for a short period of time. According to weather department sources nearly 20mm rainfall was recorded on Friday.

There was no major damage reported to the mango crop in Savarkundla taluka, district officials said.

The rain in Bhavnagar was moderate and unlike Amreli was not accompanied with strong winds. The downpour continued for half-an-hour.
