UP: 26% pandemic deaths recorded in last 13 days

LUCKNOW: About 26% of the total Covid-19 deaths in UP were reported in August alone. According to an assessment of data, 601 of the total 2,280 novel coronavirus deaths in the state have been reported in the first 13 days of August.


As many as 50 persons died of the pandemic infection in the past 24 hours.

As per the official bulletin, 14 deaths were reported in Lucknow. However, health officials said that most of these persons were from the nearby districts and the numbers will be re-adjusted.

Lucknow was followed by Prayagraj where four persons died and Varanasi, Azamgarh, Maharajganj, Mirzapur, and Kanpur Nagar recorded three deaths each.

Two deaths each were reported in Meerut, Ayodhya and Pratapgarh, while one person each died in Ghaziabad, Bareilly, Aligarh, Shahjahanpur,Hardoi, Gonda, Bahraich, Sitapur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Lalitpur and Banda.

Additional chief secretary, health and family welfare, Amit Mohan Prasad said: “Most of these deaths are related to co-morbid conditions and delay in identifying the warning.”

Meanwhile, the coronavirus tally for UP crossed 1.4 lakh mark with 4,603 fresh cases in the past 24 hours. Prasad said the total number of active infections in the state was 49,703 while the total of recovered persons reached 88,786.

As per health bulletin, 48.5% (or 2,234) of the cases came from just 10 districts including Kanpur (358), Gorakhpur(308), Prayagraj (220), Ballia (165), Bareilly (162), Saharanpur (123), Kushinagar (93) and Varanasi (92).
