UP: Barabanki teacher gets President's award for tech leap in class

FAIZABAD: A primary school teacher in rural Barabanki, Ashutosh Anand Awasthi, will receive the President’s award for use of modern technology to make students understand complex subjects, including animation, visuals and graphics. And he would plough in money from his own pocket to usher tech innovation at Miyaganj junior high school in Dariyabad area of the district.

His colleagues told TOI that Awasthi first began displaying photographs and diagrams to students on his smartphone . Then he managed to arrange a laptop and used Internet to show graphics on a big screen with a projector.

Talking to TOI, Barabanki basic education officer V P Singh said Ashutosh’s classroom sessions are at par with any English medium school. “Even children from villages who attend his classes are able to converse in English and have better knowledge of subjects when compared to any other school,” he said.

“Through my experiment to teach students through information and communication technology, I have been successful in getting desired results as report cards of students confirm they performed well with my teaching modules,” Ashutosh, who is also recipient of national Information and Communications Technology award, 2015, and Uttar Pradesh Governors' award for best teacher in 2018, said.

Ashutosh’s name was recommend by a committee of education department. He was the only name recommended from UP this year.
