UP Deputy CM KP Maurya distances BJP from garlanding of Bulandshahr violence accused, says nothing to with it

Lucknow: A day after a video, where six men who were accused in Bulandshahr violence were seen garlanding, went viral, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya has distanced the government from the incident saying that BJP government of the state has nothing to do with it. Maurya also slammed the Opposition accusing it of "making a mountain of a molehill."

"If supporters of someone who have been released from jail welcome them, the government and BJP has nothing to do with it. Opposition must not make a mountain out of a molehill," Maurya was quoted by a news agency as saying.

In the video, six men, who were arrested for allegedly inciting mob violence that led to the killing of a police inspector in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr on 3rd December 2018, can be seen receiving hero's welcome as they come out of the jail.

The video shows the crowd raising "Jai Shri Ram" and "Bharat Mata ki Jai" slogans. The supporters not only garlanded the accused but also took turns at clicking selfies and pictures with them.

Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh was killed by a mob protesting against the alleged cow slaughter in Bulandshahr last December. A civilian had also lost his life in the incident.

Bulandshahr violence

Violence broke in Bulandshahr after locals blocked traffic on a road while protesting against carcasses of cattle - believed to be cows - found in the area. In order to calm them down, Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh-led police team rushed to the spot. However, the officer was later found dead in his jeep, abandoned in a field, with a bullet injury to his head.

A post-mortem report confirmed that Inspector Subodh Kumar died after being hit by a bullet and an injury sustained after being hit by a hard object. Uttar Pradesh government faced flak over the violence from across quarters. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had said his government should be "thanked" for defeating a "political conspiracy" to incite communal violence in the state.
