UP: Mainpuri police rescues kidnapped eight-month-old child within hours

AGRA: Amid rumours of child lifting cases in Uttar Pradesh , an eight-month-old boy, who was allegedly abducted from the Mainpuri district hospital on Sunday morning, was safely rescued by the police.


While the exact reason behind the kidnapping was not immediately known, police suspect that his abductor were involved in selling children.



Mainpuri police arrested Usha Jatav, 45, who kidnapped the child, Ashish, from the hospital around 5 am, while his maternal grand mother, Vimla Devi, was asleep. According to police, the boy was admitted to the hospital on Friday for the treatment of a fungal infection.

The boy’s grandmother told the police that after applying the prescribed ointment on his body, she fell asleep, and within few minutes her grandchild was stolen. She informed the hospital staff, who immediately contacted the police.

After reviewing the CCTV footage of the hospital, police set up blockades on all the roads in the vicinity and finally caught the suspect near Karhal crossing, about 2.5 km from the district hospital.

Talking to TOI, Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) Mainpuri, OP Singh, said that the woman, who herself has six children, claimed that she has good connections with all private nursing homes in the town and she had in her possession visiting cards of almost all the hospitals. However, she initially lied to police about her identity.

He said, her husband had died and she lives with her children near Karhal crossing, from where she was nabbed. She told police that she used to get 20 percent commission from the private nursing homes for taking patient from government hospital to there. She further said that she usually convinced patients and their attendants to take treatment from a private hospital, as better facilities are available there.

Mainpuri Superintendent of Police, Ajay Shankar Rai, said that an FIR has been registered against the accused and the matter is being investigated in detail.
