UP: Pandemic count crosses 74,000 mark with 3,500 cases

LUCKNOW: The Covid-19 surge continued here on Tuesday with 3,490 cases, including a spike of 335 new cases in Bareilly, in the past 24 hours. With this, the Covid-19 tally for UP crossed the 74,000 mark to settle at 74,056.


“As many as 1,168 persons were discharged from various hospitals in the past 23 hours which leaves the state with 27,934 active cases,” said additional chief secretary, home and information, Awanish Awasthi.



Covid bulletin revealed that the 11 big cities recorded 43.7% cases. The list included Bareilly (335), Kanpur Nagar (268), Lucknow (247), Varanasi (138), Prayagraj (125), Gautam Budh Nagar (114), Gorakhpur (94), Ghaziabad (83) ,Jhansi (81), Meerut (24) and Agra (17).

Spikes were recorded in Jaunpur (191), Moradabad (109), Lakhimpur Kheri (101), Sitapur (75) and together they accounted for 13.6% of cases.

The state also recorded the death of 41 persons, taking the total number Covid-19 casualties to 1,497. As per reports, six deaths each were recorded in Bareilly and Varanasi, while five were reported in Kanpur Nagar.

Three deaths were reported in Lucknow, while two each were recorded in Prayagraj, Moradabad, Hardoi and Basti. Districts of Jhansi, Gorakhpur, Sambhal, Saharanpur, Rampur, Shahjahanpur, Sant kabir Nagar, Unnao, Mainpuri,Sultanpur, Farrukhabad, Balrampur and Ambedkarnagar saw one death each.
