UP: Vande Bharat Express pelted with stones, runs over nilgai hours later in Auraiya

AGRA: In what seems to be unending trouble for the recently launched Vande Bharat Express, an unidentified person hurled stones at the train in Bhadohi district on Wednesday. Hours later, it also ran over a herd of nilgai in Auraiya district.


Police said that an unidentified person hurled stones at the train between Mondh and Suriawan railway stations while it was heading to Varanasi.

Sunil Dutt Diwedi, station house officer of Suriawan, said, “The railway control room received a distress call about stone pelting at Vande Bharat in the afternoon. A windowpane of the train was damaged in the incident. Based on a written complaint lodged by Anil Kumar, station master of Suriawan, we have registered a case against an unidentified person under IPC sections 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees), and section 3(4) of Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.”

Later, during its return journey to New Delhi, the train ran over a herd of nilgai and was delayed by more than an hour.

Railway sources said that the express ran over at least 11 nilgai between Parjani and Kanchausi railway stations in Auraiya district when the herd came under the speeding train in the evening. On-board technical staff later conducted a thorough inspection of the train.

Speaking to TOI, Gaurav Krishan Bansal, chief public relations officer of North Central Railway, said, “No passenger was injured in the incident. However, cattle run-over is a cause of concern for us on the Delhi-Mughalsarai route.”
