UPCC chief arrested by Agra police gets bail, handed over to Lucknow police

LUCKNOW: Agra police on Wednesday granted bail to Uttar Pradesh Congress Committe ( UPCC ) chief Ajay Kumar Lallu a day after his arrest in connection with the violation of lockdown norms.

Thereafter, Lucknow counterparts detained Lallu as he was wanted by the police in connection with another FIR lodged with the Hazratganj police accusing his of furnishing wrong and misleading details of buses that were provided by the Congress party to ferry migrants to their native places in UP.



On Tuesday, an FIR was lodged on the charges of giving false information to public servant, dishonesty and forgery for purpose of cheating at the Hazratganj police station of Lucknow against Lallu by regional transport officer (RTO) Lucknow Ram Prasad Diwedi .

Similarly, later in the night another FIR was lodged against Lallu at Fatehpur Sikri police station of Agra under the charges of lockdown violation and Epidemic Act, 1897.

On Wednesday, Inspector General of police, Agra Range, A Satish Ganesh said that after getting bail the UPCC president Ajay Kumar Lallu was detained by the sleuths of Lucknow police in connection with an FIR registered at the Hazratganj police station.

“As soon as Lallu stepped out of gate number-4 of the district court, a team led by assistant commissioner of police, Krishnanagar took away Lallu,” said Ganesh.

A senior officer privy to the probe said that the UPCC president was taken to Agra Fort for legal formalities and then in separate vehicle set off towards Lucknow.

Some Congress party workers also vented their ire over the act of police and raised slogans against the government.

Lucknow police commissioner Sujeet Pandey confirmed the arrest of UPCC president Ajay Kumar Lallu from Agra.
