UPSRTC to introduce cashless ticketing in January

Last month, UPSRTC partnered with Paytm for hassle-free ticketing. Bareilly: Come New Year and you will not have to carry cash for your journey in the buses of the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC), with the department all set to introduce e-ticketing machines in its entire fleet, beginning in January.

According to senior UPSRTC officials, the global positioning system (GPS)-enabled e-ticketing machines will facilitate passengers to make payments for their tickets using debit or credit card.

Speaking to TOI, UPSRTC managing director Raj Shekhar said, “The touch-screen e-ticketing machines will be provided to conductors in all buses, including AC Volvo, AC Shatabdi, AC Janrath, Scania and ordinary non-AC buses, among others by January. Recently, around 1,000 machines have been introduced in the Lucknow region on a trial basis. The cashless system will enable passengers to use their plastic money instead of cash.”

Shekhar added, “All eight bus depots — Charbagh, Kaiserbagh, Raibareli, Awadh, Alambagh, Haidergarh and Barabanki — in the Lucknow region have been allotted ETMs on a trial basis, while other regions, too, will be given machines soon. We expect to kick off the service by January.”
