Uttar Pradesh: Cop suspended for failure to curb stubble burning

PILIBHIT: A sub-inspector attached to Puranpur Kotwali police station was suspended on Monday for failing to curb stubble burning in his jurisdiction. The superintendent of police has also sought an explanation from four constables in this regard.

On Monday, Pilibhit SP Abhishek Dixit suspended Puranpur Kotwali SI Abdul Samid for his negligence in curbing crop burning.

The action was taken after the SP received several complaints of stubble burning from locals in Sherpur. They also expressed concern over the chances of such fires spreading to the nearby Haripur forest range.

Dixit said, “We cannot overlook any slackness on the part of police personnel. We are constantly monitoring stubble burning in the district and taking all steps to implement the Supreme Court’s directive.” He added that the suspended SI has been attached to the district headquarters.

So far, over 250 farmers have been booked for stubble burning in Pilibhit district alone while notices have been issued to hundreds of others. The district administration has also cracked the whip on various officials including suspension of several of them.
