Uttar Pradesh: Hamirpur by-election election schedule announced, voting to be held on this date

Lucknow: The Election Commission has released the by-poll scheduled for Hamirpur Assembly seat in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. The seat has been vacated due to the life sentence awarded to BJP MLA Ashok Kumar Chandel for killing five people. State Chief Electoral Officer Ajay Kumar Shukla has said that the notification for the Hamirpur assembly by-election will be issued on August 28.

He said, the process of filing nominations will start from the same day, which will continue till the 4th of September. The by-polls will be held in Hamirpur assembly seat of UP as well as Intherwara, Pala and Badharghat assembly seats of Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Tripura respectively. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on the 5th of September. The last date for withdrawal of names will be September 7. Polling will be held on September 23, while the election results will be announced after counting on September 27.

When questioned about the prospects of declaring by-polls in 12 other assembly seats in the state, Shukla said that he has been informed of the Hamirpur assembly by-elections only, the rest of the seats will be decided soon and the election process will be started.
