Uttar Pradesh: Set ablaze by husband for giving birth to fourth girl child, woman succumbs
Lucknow: In a case reported from Allahabad, a man allegedly burnt his wife to death after she questioned his extra-marital affair. The incident happened in Damdama village under the jurisdiction of Mauaiam police station on Thursday night.
According to a report in the Times of India, the couple's minor daughter also sustained several injuries and was admitted to a local hospital.
The Deputy superintendent of police, Amit Kumar Srivastava told TOI that as per the complaint filed by Lal's father-in-law, Sone Lal reached his house on Holi in an inebriated state and began teasing Chanda Devi for giving birth to a fourth girl child.
He added this resulted in a heated argument between the couple and Chanda alleged Sone Lal of having an extra-marital affair which enraged him further. Reportedly, after which Lal brought Kerosene oil and put her ablaze. Meanwhile, the couple's daughters tried to protect their mother and they were injured in the attempt.
However, the accused tried to flee from the scene but the villagers caught him. The police added, the accused have been booked under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and an FIR has been lodged against him.
According to data by the National Crime Records Bureau 2016, Uttar Pradesh-a BJP ruled state recorded maximum number of crimes against women, that is 49,262 cases.
