Uttarakhand: 3 Killed as Flash Flood Washes Away House in Chamoli Village

Rain woes continue in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district. On Monday morning, a flash flood in Lankhi village swept away a house after a spell of incessant rains.

Three people are reported dead in the incident, including two women and a nine year-old child. News reports also indicate the possibility of more people being trapped in the debris of the house, which fell into a rivulet.

State Disaster Response Force personnel have been rushed to the spot.

Earlier on Monday, the Dehradun Met Centre of the IMD had said there was a possibility of heavy showers in Chamoli, Dehradun, Haridwar, Nainital and other districts. Over the next 24 hours, the Met office has warned of heavy rainfall with intense shower at isolated places especially in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Pithoragarh districts.

The IMD added that between Tuesday and the following Monday (August 13-19), there was a risk of flooding in low-lying areas and landslides in the hills. Authorities and citizens have been advised to take appropriate safety measures.

Dehradun received 126.6 mm rain on Sunday (until Monday morning), while Pantnagar got 71.6 mm.
