Uttarakhand Cloudburst: Four Killed in Chamoli, Tehri Districts

Four people were killed in a cloudburst in Uttarakhand's Chamoli and Tehri districts in separate rain-related incidents on Thursday.

Two women were washed away in a flash flood in Faldiya village of Dewal block in Chamoli late yesterday night. The deceased were identified as Pushpa Devi and Jyoti. Twelve houses in the village were also damaged by the downpour.

Local authorities have made arrangements to house the affected families in local schools.

In addition to the human casualties, livestock-related losses were also reported in the above incidents.

Chamoli recorded 70 mm rainfall on Thursday (until Friday morning), while New Tehri (AWS) got 30 mm. The heaviest rain on Thursday was recorded at Nandkesari and Kapkot (130 mm), Nandprayag (110 mm), and Ganganagar (100 mm), according to the IMD.

The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall/thundershowers for Uttarakhand, with intense rainfall in isolated places until Sunday. It has issued a yellow 'watch' alert in Pithoragarh, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi, Dehradun and Nainital districts on Monday, August 12, and an orange 'be prepared' alert for the different parts of the state the next day, i.e. Tuesday.
