Uttarakhand: Landslide near ITBP camp in Chamoli's Gauchar blocks Badrinath Highway [WATCH]

Chamoli: A landslide occurred in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district on Monday morning near the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) camp in Gauchar town, blocking the Badrinath Highway.

A video of the landslide shows a huge storm of dust rise as the debris falls and blocks the road. People near the site of the occurrence can be heard saying the "cars on the road made a narrow escape".

No injuries have been reported due to the landslide.

The Badrinath Highway connects Gangotri to Uttarkashi. Traffic has been affected due to the debris on the road. The operations to clear the highway are underway.

The landslide was triggered by heavy rainfall in the region. Uttrakhand has received heavy rainfall in the past few days.

In Pithoragarh district, some houses have been damaged and two people are feared trapped in an incident of cloudburst in Jhula village. Uttarakhand State Disaster Response Force have reached there.

The Indian Meteorological Department on Saturday forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places over Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.

On July 19 as well, landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in Bhanerpani and Pipalkoti blocked National Highway-7 leading to Badrinath.
