Vadodara: Businessman duped with fake gold biscuits

Vadodara: A businessman from Rajasthan was duped of Rs 55 lakh by six persons by selling him duplicate gold biscuits.

The victim Naresh Maheshwari said that in August, he was offered two kg gold biscuits at a price lower than the market rate by his acquaintances Dinesh Patel and Dr Wasim Kaku, both residents of Himmatnagar.

They had told Maheshwari that a resident of Vadodara Bunty alias Iliyas Ajmeri is offering the gold and when Maheshwari showed interest, they fixed a meeting with Ajmeri at a hotel in city.

At the meeting besides Maheshwari, Patel, Kaku and Ajmeri, two other persons Bhikhusinh Bapu and Sardarsinh Bapu were also present. When the deal was finalized, Ajmeri asked Maheshwari to meet him in Himmatnagar for the exchange. Maheshwari paid Rs 55 lakh cash to Ajmeri who gave him a bag containing 24 gold biscuits. However, when he showed the biscuits to a jeweller in Jhalore, he revealed that they were not made of gold. the biscuits were not gold. Maheshwari registered a complaint at Manjalpur police station on Wednesday.
