[VIDEO] 22-year-old drowns in pond while his friends shoot video of him in Karnataka's Kalaburagi

Kalaburagi: In a tragic incident, a 22-year-old youth drowned in a quarry pond while his friends were busy shooting video of him during the incident in Kalaburagi district of Karnataka. 

The fateful incident took place on Friday evening when the youth went for swimming. The matter came to light after the video of the incident went viral on social media.

The victim is identified as Jaffer Ayub, a resident of Mijguri area of the district.

The youth drowned near a pond on the outskirts of Kalaburagi district. The video shows the youth raising hands for help even as his friend shoot the video and watch him drown. In the video, the youth could be seen struggling to stay afloat.

 

 

Nobody came to the rescue of the youth from his group, while some other women standing nearby remained mute spectators. The youth had gone to the pond along with his 10 other friends for swimming. 

Reports suggest that the victim did not know swimming. He jumped into the pond and could not swim out of it safely, while his other friend jumped and came out quickly. The video shows that one of his friends tries to give him a helping hand but withdrew it later.

In another incident in October this year, a two-year-old child died while her parents were glued to their television set watching the rescue operation underway in the state's Tiruchirappalli district.  

In the evening, her parents were engrossed in watching television and suddenly realised that their daughter was missing. The parents searched the house and found one of the child's legs sticking out of a plastic container in the bathroom. The container was full of water and Revathi was not moving when her parents found her.

She was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival. Following her death, a case of unnatural death was registered by the police. Revathi is survived by her father Lingeswaran and his wife Nisha.
