[VIDEO] Navratri celebration turns fatal as Surat man collapses, dies while playing garba in Mount Abu

Mount Abu: Navratri celebrations turned fatal for a resident of Gujarat who died while playing garba in Mount Abu. The middle-aged man, identified as Jagdish from Gujarat’s Surat collapsed and died in Mount Abu while performing garba.

Jagdish and his wife had come to Mount Abu in Rajasthan from Surat along with five more couples on the weekend.

“We came to Mount Abu from Surat on the weekend. On Sunday, when we returned to our hotel after sightseeing we saw that a garba event was organised there. So, we all also started playing garba during which our friend Jadish Bhai suddenly collapsed. We immediately rushed him to a hospital where he was declared brought dead,” said Jagdish’s friend.

After sightseeing on Sunday, these families started enjoying garba at a hotel during which Jagdish collapsed and died. The tragic moment was captured in a mobile video.

The festival of Navratri is celebrated with great fervour and enthusiasm in Gujarat with people playing garba donning colourful outfits. The nine-day festival is celebrated differently in several parts of the country, however, the common theme in all cases is the victory of good over evil.

In the eastern and northeastern states of India, the Durga Puja is synonymous with Navaratri, wherein goddess Durga emerges victorious in a fight with mighty demon Mahishasur while people in the northern and western states, celebrates the festival as Rama Lila and Dussehra marking the victory of Ram over the demon king Ravana. In southern states, the victory of different goddesses, of Ram or Saraswati is celebrated.

During the festival, people visit temple, worship goddess Durga while some observe fast.
