[VIDEO] Robot replaces humans for room service, brings coffee for guest at Shanghai hotel

Shanghai, China: A journalist staying a hotel in Shanghai, China was surprised when coffee pods were delivered to her room. Her order was delivered by an unusual room service staff - a robot.

Anna Fifield shared a video of the robot delivering her coffee pods at her door. "I called for more coffee pods in my Shanghai hotel room and this is how they came to me," Fifield wrote while sharing the video.

The video begins with the guest opening the door of her room and wishing "Good morning, Robot!" She then presses the 'Open' button on the screen to get her coffee pods.

When someone asked her if the robot knocked on her door, she said, "The robot called my room phone and told me (in Chinese and English) that it was waiting outside."


A user translated what the robot said, "She was saying, you are the cutest person in the universe. do you want to take a selfie with me? Don’t forget to give me a [thumbs up]. Wish you have a century long happiness."

The video, which has garnered 1.2 million views, has garnered mixed reactions.


A user joked, "An excessive amount of innovation for TWO coffee pods."


While another added, "I thought only humans and cats walk away talking to themselves. now robots too!"

A restaurant in Chennai has robots serving customers and interacting with them in English and Tamil. A team of seven robots runs the restaurant located in Mugilivakkam-Porur. The robots welcome customers and bring meals to their table. Another female robot at the reception desk responds to the queries of customers and guides them about their table numbers.
