[VIDEO] Woman chained by in-laws, raped by relatives in Rajasthan's Pratapgarh

Pratapgarh: Locals gathered at the office of the District Collectorate in Rajasthan's Pratapgarh when a woman with chains was brought there. According to the video that surfaced on Saturday, the woman had heavy iron chains on her ankles. Allegedly, the woman's in-laws and husband had chained her. The Pratapgarh police have launched an investigation into the matter. 

The woman is a mother to five children and her in-laws live in Peepal Khunt village. The woman alleged that her husband used to beat her up after consuming alcohol. The accused have not been arrested yet. 

She also alleged that she had been raped by the relatives of her in-laws. Narrating her ordeal further, the woman said that her initial escape attempt was foiled as her in-laws caught her and chained her. Further investigation is underway.

Woman tied to pole and tonsured in Bihar 

In July this year, a woman was tied to a pole and thrashed on the order of the Khap Panchayat in Samastipur. While the video of the incident surfaced on social media, the police pretended to be oblivious of the entire episode. Samastipur Superintendent of Police (SP) said, "If any complaint comes to us that a woman was subjected to brutal behaviour, we will certainly take action. "

In the video, locals were seen donning police-like uniforms as they paraded the woman in front of an audience. While one of them smeared her face with a white substance, the others kept pulling her hair. The woman was allegedly targeted after a diktat was issued against her by the Khap Panchayat. 

Telangana woman tied up by family, forced to do chores

In February 2017, the Telangana police rescued a woman from her house. The 25-year-old woman had been chained and confined by her brothers and sisters-in-law. The incident came to light after the woman's neighbours saw that her hands had been chained and she was crying. 

The woman shared her plight with her neighbours and told them that she was forced to do household chores by her in-laws. She said that she had been chained after she tried to escape. The woman said that her brother used to beat her up constantly. 

The woman had been living with her brothers after their father's death. She said that she was a graduate and had even worked as a teacher. Contrary to the allegations made by the woman, her brothers said that the woman had been mentally unstable since the age of 11.
