Vijayawada civic body bulldozes 25 illegal buildings in 10 days

VIJAYAWADA: In a bid to control illegal constructions, the town planning wing of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) is now looking to implement rules and guidelines strictly.

Officials have already focused on identifying and demolishing illegal constructions in the city.

On Thursday, town planning authorities demolished illegal under-construction floors of a building at Karl Marx Road (Eluru Road) in the city.
The civic body people to get proper approval for the building plan before starting construction.

VMC officials have started taking action against illegal constructions and in the last 10 days, as many as 25 illegal constructions have been demolished by them.

The civic body has especially focused on the constructions taken up during March and April as officials were busy with election duties around that time.

“We will not spare any illegal construction in the city. Special teams led by assistant city planner level officers will monitor action against the illegal construction. Our teams will inspect the buildings and issue notices if they find any deviations,” said A Laxmana Rao, a city planner at VMC.

This comes after the government asked municipal corporations across the state to take stringent action against illegal constructions, following which the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority demolished the Praja Vedika hall at Undavalli.
