Vijayawada: Fire from short circuit kills man, son

Vijayawada: A man and his son were charred to death after their thatched hut caught fire at Piduguralla town in Guntur district on Saturday. The deceased were identified as Sheikh Jaan (50) and Sheikh Maula Ali (19).

According to Piduguralla town police, the deceased were daily wage workers and have been residing at Adarsh Nagar in a thatched tenement.

Cops said the incident took place late in the night when both were asleep.

District fire officials identified that there was a short circuit in the unauthorised power supply line to the hut that led to the fire. Flames engulfed the thatched roof and trapped the father and the son and the whole structure to come down upon them. Fire tenders rushed to the spot and doused the flames.

Cops inspected the spot of the mishap and a case under Section 174 of CrPC (death due to electrocution) was registered.
