Vijayawada to host world Telugu writers' conference

Vijayawada: The World Telugu Writers’ Association will hold its fourth world Telugu writers’ conference in the city for three days from December 27 this year, said secretary Dr GV Purnachand. The conference is slated to be held at the Siddhartha college campus, the secretary said.

The World Telugu Writers’ Association was formed in 2007 and they have held three conferences so far, in 2007, 2011 and 2015.

The conferences are known to attract Telugu writers from all over the world.

This year, the conference will focus on, ‘protection of mother tongue, its development and modernisation of the language’, Dr Purnachand said.

He further said that the conference will focus in building ‘language authorities’ in the two Telugu states and will attempt at protecting the language in other states where Telugus have settled over the years.

According to Dr Purnachand, the conference will also make an appeal to state governments to make Telugu an official language where there is a sizeable Telugu population.
