Visakhapatnam: Fire at pharmaceutical company in JN Pharma City, Parawada leaves one injured

Visakhapatnam: A major fire broke out at a pharmaceutical company in JN Pharma City at Parawada near Visakhapatnam on Monday night. At least one person was injured in the blaze. The injured was rushed to a hospital in Gajuwaka.

An explosion was first heard at a unit of Ramky Solvents, following which there was a huge fire. The fire incident is reported to have occurred in the Coastal Waste Management Project.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Suresh Babu, confirmed that the fire which broke out at 10:30 pm has been doused and one person was injured in the incident.

According to Visakhapatnam District Collector V Vinay Chand, at least nine fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the massive blaze. Fortunately, one person was said to be injured, while three other workers who were at the site managed to escape.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. 

State Industries Minister M Goutham Reddy spoke to Visakhapatnam district Collector and ordered the administration to evacuate all the workers. He also asked the fire service personnel and police to be on high alert.

The blaze incident led to panic as only two months ago 12 people lost their lives and 585 fell sick after styrene vapour leaked from the LG Polymers plant near Visakhapatnam.

Police on June 7 arrested the CEO, two directors and eight other officials of LG Polymers in connection with the styrene vapour leak incident.
