VKV Dibrugarh celebrates Universal Brotherhood Day

DIBRUGARH: Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya (VKV), Dibrugarh on Wednesday celebrated the Universal Brotherhood Day which marks the commemoration of Swami Vivekananda's famous speech delivered on September 11, 1893 in Chicago to the delegates of the World Parliament of Religions . The speech is popularly remembered for its opening words "Sisters and Brothers of America".



The programme at VKV began with a Sattriya Nritya performance followed by the welcome address by principal Ravindranath D Savdeykar and felicitation of chief guest Suparna Bagchi, a social worker and member of Bharat Vikash Parishad, Dibrugarh.

In his speech, the VKV principal threw light on the significance of the day and Swamiji's message to have faith in all religions in order to attain world peace. He also mentioned that this is the 50th year of Vivekananda Rock Memorial, for which celebrations have begun from September 2, 2019.

The audience were shown a documentary on Vivekananda Rock Memorial with the theme of 'Ek Bharat Vijayi Bharat.' Debupam Dutta, a Class X student, delivered Swamiji's Chicago speech, drawing applause from the gathering. A group of students presented a song titled 'He Vivekananda Swami'.
