After a lot of uncertainty and long delay, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has finally ended the wait of students by declaring Class 12 results on Monday.

The announcement brought cheer in the times of coronavirus as most of the city schools reported 100% results in Science, Commerce, and Humanities subjects.

Gujarat falls under CBSE’s Ajmer region which has reported 87.6% result this time. Girls outshone boys in Ajmer region as of total 34,382 girls who were evaluated, 90.81% (31,224) passed the exam. Of total 51,388 boys who appeared for exams, 85.44% (43,908) boys passed the exam.

No failures The CBSE has also decided to avoid using the term ‘fail’ in the results, and has replaced it with the term ‘Essential Repeat’. For students, it means they will be given a chance to appear for exams once conditions are favourable for exams to be held.

The Board announced the results on the basis of an alternate assessment scheme after they were forced to cancel pending exams in the wake of rising number of cases due to Covid-19 outbreak.

While many schools believe the results “could have been better”, others think the students benefitted from the Board’s view of giving average marks in subjects where exam was not conducted.

Mrugen Shah, principal of Prakash High School, said the result could have been better for the school considering the potential of students. “There is ambiguity in the calculation for the formula of average. We have not been able to decipher it yet. We feel the result could have been better,” he said.
