WATCH: Nitin Patel win hearts as Team India physio rushes to rescue concussed Naeem Hasan

Mohammed Shami was in ruthless form on Day 1 of the pink-ball Test between India and Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata as he struck two Bangladesh batters on their helmets. Liton Das and Naeem Hasan were the victims of Shami’s lethal pace and bounce as they both suffered a concussion after being hit on the helmet. However, amid fierce competitiveness on the field, India set an example by sending their physio Nitin Patel to check on Naeem after the Bangladesh batter was struck by a brutal bouncer by Shami in the 23rd over.

Nitin rushed to the ground after Bangladesh physios were busy attending Liton Das, who was the first victim of Shami’s bouncer. It was a moment worthy of all the plaudits as the health of the players is always the first priority.

Both Liton and Naeem were replaced by Mehidy Hasan and Taijul Islam under the ICC concussion rules and thus Bangladesh became the first side to have two concussion substitutes in the same Test match.

It was overall the fifth concussion substitute in the history of Test cricket after Marnus Labuschagne replaced Steve Smith during the Lord’s Test in the Ashes 2019.

Here's how Twitterati hailed Indian physio Nitin Patel attending Naeem Hasan

Concussion substitutes in International cricket:

Marnus Labuschagne for Steve Smith at Lord's (2019)

Jermaine Blackwood for Darren Bravo at Jamaica (2019)

Theunis de Bruyn for Dean Elgar at Ranchi (2019)

Mehidy Hasan for Liton Das at Kolkata (2019)

Taijul Islam for Naeem Hasan at Kolkata (2019)

 ICC Concussion Substitute Rule:

1.2.8.1 In assessing whether the nominated Concussion Replacement should be considered a like-for-like player, the ICC Match Referee should consider the likely role the concussed player would have played during the remainder of the match, and the normal role that would be performed by the nominated Concussion Replacement.

1.2.8.2 If the ICC Match Referee believes that the inclusion of the nominated Concussion Replacement, when performing their normal role, would excessively advantage their team, the Match Referee may impose such conditions upon the identity and involvement of the Concussion Replacement as he/she sees fit, in line with the overriding objective of facilitating a like-for-like replacement for the concussed player.
