Water supply in Indore remains hit

Indore: Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) on Monday failed to supply tap water in Khajrana, Annapurna and Sneh Nagar among other localities depending on 10 overhead water tanks after Jalood pumping station’s capacity to draw 540 MLD water reduced to 290 MLD due to slit and garbage jamming some of the pumps.

“Due to continuous rainfall, water level of Narmada has soared to around 148m while dams releasing excess water are further posing hurdles in the work to remove garbage from pumps.

We will only be able to clean pumps after Narmada level goes down somewhere near 145m,” IMC water works department in charge Balram Verma told TOI.

He added that Jalood pumping station has capacity to draw 540 MLD water but against it, IMC is able to draw only 290 MLD. Following this, overhead water tanks of Khajrana, Bhagirathpura, Saikripa Colony, Urdu Nagar, Mahavir Nagar, Annapurna, Krishi Nagar, Jinsi, Sneh Nagar and Dravid Nagar could not be filled.

Similarly, overhead water tanks in Scheme 54, Cotton Adda, Radio Colony, Bilawali, Bhanwarkuan, Nageen Nagar, Ambikapuri, Chandan Nagar, Sarvasuvidha Nagar, Scheme-94 and Malhar Ashram could not be filled to their full capacity and water supply was affected in nearby localities. “Currently, IMC is supplying water through 85 overhead tanks in as many wards and if required, the corporation is likely to increase tankers in days to come,” Verma said.
