Weather Alert: IMD issues thunderstorm warning in Odisha for next 24 hours

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bhubaneswar on Friday predicted thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and rainfall in many parts of Odisha for the next 24 hours.

As per the latest bulletin, the Regional Meteorological Centre has also warned of thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and light rainfall at one or two places over Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara and Cuttack districts till 2 PM today.

“We have issued warning for the next 24 hours. One or two places in northern districts of Odisha including Nayagarh, Khurda and few places over Kandhamal will experience lightning accompanied by rainfall. The wind speed will remain between 15 and 20 km per hour during these hours,” informed Meteorologist of Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Centre, LK Giri.

Keeping this in view, the IMD has also alerted the people to avoid moving in open areas particularly in the afternoon.

A cyclonic circulation is extending upto 0.9 km above main sea level, and currently lies over interior Odisha and neighbouring areas due to which rainfall will occur at some places in northern districts and one or two places in southern Odisha, stated Giri.

“Rainfall will occur in many places of the State till March 19. However, the amount will considerably decrease after that,” added Giri.
