West Bengal: Major reshuffle in TMC's organizational posts

Ahead of the coming Assembly polls, West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee reshuffled organizational posts of her party.

Interestingly enough, the Chief Minister included former Maoist leader Chhatradhar Mahato to her state committee.

Mahato was an active political activist from West Midnapore's Lalgarh and he became popular during the height of Maoist movement in West Bengal post 2008.

He came to the forefront following the Salboni blast in November 2008.

He was the convener of an organization 'Police Santrash Birodhi Janasadharaner Committee' or better known as People's Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCAPA).

He was arrested while giving an interview to a police personnel posing as a journalist on 26 September 2009.
He was convicted by court under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) along with other three PCPA members and his aide Sukhshanti Baske, Sambhu Soren and Sagun Murmu.

After his release from jail in early 2020, Mahato joined Trinamool Congress. Now he will take organizational capacity in West Midnapore district.

Among others Partha Chatterjee, state Education Minister, remains the secretary general of All India Trinamool Congress and Subrata Bakshi remains the President. Among new inductions, Lakshmi Ratan Shukla, former cricketer, will be in charge of Howrah district.
