West Bengal: Violent clash erupts between cops, BJP workers after not being allowed to perform 'Ram Puja' in Kharagpur

Kolkata: Violence erupted in West Midnapore’s Kharagpur when police lathicharged on the BJP workers who assembled to organize ‘Ram Puja’ on Wednesday, the day of bhoomi pujan of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

Several policemen were injured after BJP workers pelted stones when they were prevented from assembling and performing the ‘Ram puja’ as complete lockdown was enforced on Wednesday by the West Bengal government across the state.



Police and BJP workers got engaged in an argument following which a scuffle broke out between them and the policemen, who resorted to lathicharge. Several BJP workers were injured in the incident and some were arrested later.

Police prevented the puja in order to enforce strict lockdown and prevent any type of social gathering.

In another incident in West Midnapore district’s Belda, police arrested BJP workers for organizing a march in favour of the bhoomi pujan in Ayodhya.

In North Bengal’s Cooch Behar, social distancing norms were violated as BJP workers set up huge pandals and organized a religious ceremony for the Ayodhya temple.
