Wife's death pushes man to hang self in Kurnool district

TIRUPATI: A 50-year-old cashier at a local bank, who could not bear the tragedy of his wife’s death , hanged himself at his residence at Saibaba Nagar, in Nandyal town of Kurnool district on Saturday.

According to police, Srinivasulu, who was working at the Andhra Pragathi Grameena Bank, was married to Rajyalakshmi for 20 years.

The childless couple was reportedly having a disturbed life over the last few months.

On April 23, a depressed Rajyalakshmi committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence. Traumatized by his wife’s suicide and the loneliness, Srinivasulu is believed to have taken the extreme step. Nandyal police reached the residence of the couple after being alerted by the neighbours.

They found a suicide note at the crime scene, in which Srinivasulu stated that no one should be held responsible for his death and added that he could not bear the death of his wife and wished to live no more.

He also expressed his willingness to donate his organs to the needy in the suicide note, and also to utilize funds worth Rs 11 lakh in his bank account towards the construction and maintenance of a local temple.

Nandyal police shifted the body to the local government hospital for post-mortem and have registered a case. Further investigation is on.
