Wildlife Week celebrations end, foundation laid for musth shelter

Visakhapatnam: Valedictory function of the 65th Wildlife Week celebrations was held here on Wednesday at the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (IGZP), wherein the AP minister for tourism, culture and youth advancement, Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao was the chief guest.

As part of the programme, IGZP organised various activities.

These included laying of the foundation stone for the ‘Musth Shelter’ in the elephant enclosure. The work will be carried out under the APDRP scheme and tendering for it will take place on October 25. Two male Royal Bengal tigers, brought from Pilikula Biological Park, Mangalore, Karnataka, were released into the tiger enclosure; a plantation programme near the tiger enclosure was held as well. Further, at the zoo Bioscope, the annual zoo report 2018-19 and promotional documentary on the zoo park were released.

Certificates were distributed to the winners of various competitions held during the Wildlife Week celebrations and services of NGOs and other organisations in the field of wildlife conservation were honoured. The minister presented the mementos to VSPCA, Eastern Ghats Wildlife Society, NTPC and local experts in rescuing snakes.
