Sundergarh: Tension run high at Ghumuda village under Dharuadihi police limits of Sundergarh district following the death of a four-year-old girl who was missing since yesterday.
The minor girl, identified as Poonam Sa, was reportedly playing in front her house yesterday morning when she suddenly went missing. Though her family members searched for her in and around the village, they couldn’t trace her.
Later, suspecting a woman of the village of practising superstition, some locals along with Poonam’s family members barged into her house and allegedly found the minor girl inside a box with multiple bite marks on her body.
Poonam was rushed to Govindpur Community Health Centre in a critical condition but doctor declared her brought dead. Irate over her death, some locals thrashed the woman.
“My father-in-law traced my daughter whom the woman had kept in a box. We found several bite marks on Poonam’s neck and hands,” alleged Hirabati Sa, mother of the deceased girl.
“We suspect it to be a case of sorcery as there were several bite marks on Poonam’s body. Stringent action should be taken against the woman,” said one of Poonam’s relatives.
Meanwhile, local police reached the spot after getting information and rescued the accused woman. Two platoons of police force have been deployed in the village as tension still prevail in the area.
